the perodic Table of Poetry
Opening Act

Periodic Table of Poetry readings
for an hour long feature with accompanying
background music from the HA!Man of South Africa

Janet Kuypers from Opening Act
in the only 2013 Chicago show from Francois Le Roux
at the resident of Cathleen Schadelmeier-Bartels

Opening Act Janet Kuypers chapbook
In one of Janet Kuypers’ installments of Periodic Table of Poetry poem readings (in her effort to write a poem for every element in the Periodic Table, to later become a book), Janet Kuypers joined never-before-performed Periodic Table poems with background music from the HA!Man of South Africa in a feature at Cathleen Schandelmeier-Bartels’ residence, as an “Opening Act” for the only Chicago performance night in 2013 for the HA!Man of South Africa.

Because Kuypers use otherwise unreleased music from the HA!Man of South Africa, the vast majority of the music pieces in this outdoors performance were from his 2011 Hotel Music tracks (though one track, “Alex”, was not).

The vast majority of the Periodic Table of Poetry poems in Kuypers’ ““Opening Act”” were slated for performance that night (although Kuypers allowed a “requests” segment at the end of her feature, where people asked for a number of older Periodic Table poems for Kuypers to perform with music from the HA!Man of South Africa), so the morning of the live show, cc&d magazine (through Scars Publications) released a free PDF file chapbook (titled “Opening Act”, of writings from the Periodic Table portion of the show) There were three bonus poems Kuypers wrote in September 2013 people could choose from for performance (all three of them appear in the chapbook, but only one of them was performed in the life show). Any of the last requested poems also do not appear int he chapbook.

This feature was filmed with both Canon and Sony cameras (through the Sony video camera did not film the last two request poems performed that evening).
