Proving once again that corporate compassion is not an oxymoron, Walgreens has stopped selling AquaBabies'4-inch plastic cubes containing live fish, snails, and frogs'after receiving information from PETA and complaints from consumers.

³Although we did sell AquaBabies in the past, we became aware of the concerns from the public and stopped carrying them,² wrote Beth Koenig of Walgreens Consumer Relations in a letter to PETA. ³Walgreens does not intend to sell any product that may be perceived as inhumane.²

PETA wrote Walgreens after receiving complaints from its members who reported seeing dead fish floating in tanks on display in many stores. The animal rights group pointed out to Walgreens that the fate of the fish, frogs, and snails taken home would be equally as bleak since these living creatures, purchased on a whim, would not be given proper care.

The Walgreen Corporation joins a growing list of businesses that refuse to sell AquaBabies, including Eckerd, Rite Aid, Albertson¹s, and several other Walgreens stores whose district managers had already removed Aquababies from their inventory because of customer complaints.
