Violent Endeavour

Janet Kuypers
10/18/19, the day in 1967 the first space probe entered
another planet’s atmosphere (Soviet Venera 4 to Venus)

We were in a mad race, to see who would go first —
we wanted to try something entirely different,
not knowing it would be such a violent endeavour...
that indicated how we’d soon destroy each other.
