Magnificent
   Desolation

Janet Kuypers
7/20/19, the day in 1969 of
the Apollo 11 moon landing

we live in a thin slice of history
where we knew we were greater
than what we could ever dream

in a blink of an eye, we risk our lives
because there was no choice for this
moment of magnificent desolation

the greatness of planet Earth
is only a tiny dot, after seeing
all in the Universe before you
